Composting Information Report

Composting
By Lucy

Composting is a term that you use to describe putting food waste and natural sources into a bin to make fertiliser for your garden.

In compost there are food scraps (Green waste) and natural waste (Browns). Green Waste includes apple cores, banana peels and other food scraps. Browns include paper, cardboard and leaves. It’s important not to compost meat and plastics because they will slow down the efficacy of your compost bin. In compost there is also bacteria. Bacteria include actinomycete. Actinomycete is the microorganism that causes the stinky smell.

Composting works when decomposers eat the  food waste then it becomes a fertiliser for your garden. Decomposers include worms, pill bugs, ants, centipedes and other bugs.

Composting the soil allows it to get the nutrients to help the garden flourish. We don’t have to buy it. It is a way of getting rid of our food scraps. It is also a way of reducing, Reusing and Recycling, It’s also a sustainable way of living.
